Can you add an Instagram feed to Jimdo? Creator vs Website Builder

The honest answer depends on which Jimdo you have. Jimdo runs two separate products: Jimdo Creator, which has a Widget/HTML Element for your own code, and the Jimdo Website Builder (the product Jimdo also calls Dolphin), which, according to Jimdo’s own help center, does not allow custom code or external widgets at all. This post explains how to tell them apart, how to add an auto-updating Instagram feed on Creator, and what you can realistically do on the Website Builder.

Updated October 12, 2026

The short answer

Jimdo CreatorJimdo Website Builder (Dolphin)
Custom HTML / JavaScriptYes: Widget/HTML Element, Edit HTML in text elements, Edit HeadNo. Jimdo’s help says you cannot add HTML, CSS or JavaScript
External widgets via embed codeYes, through the Widget/HTML ElementNo, and iframes cannot be embedded either
Built-in Instagram optionAn “Instagram Feed” element powered by the third-party service POWrA Smart Apps block with Instagram, which embeds content by URL (Jimdo’s example is an Instagram post)
Social Feed by grip spaceWorks: paste the embed code into a Widget/HTML ElementNot possible, because the embed code is a script
Typical addressyourname.jimdoweb.com or yourname.jimdofree.comyourname.jimdosite.com

So if you are on Jimdo Creator, you can add a feed in a few minutes; the steps are below. If you are on the Jimdo Website Builder, an embedded script-based feed is not an option today, and the best you can do is use Jimdo’s own blocks or link to your profile. We would rather tell you that up front than have you sign up for something you cannot use.

Step 1: find out which Jimdo you are using

Jimdo’s help center has a dedicated article on this question, because the two products have different editors, different features and even separate help centers. Here are the clues it lists:

CheckJimdo CreatorJimdo Website Builder
Your Jimdo subdomain.jimdoweb.com (newer sites) or .jimdofree.com (older sites).jimdosite.com
Editor addresshttps://cms.e.jimdo.com/https://builder.e.jimdo.com/
Editor layoutA top bar while editing, with a menu at the top left for settingsNo top-left menu bar; most features are in the dashboard’s left-hand menu
DashboardA minimal left-hand menu, mainly SettingsMany menu items (Store, Marketing, Statistics and more, depending on plan)
BrandingShows JIMDO / CREATOR in the dashboard and editorShows the standard Jimdo logo
Free plan nameCreator FreePlay

Jimdo notes that the subdomain clue applies even if you also connect a custom domain, so check the Jimdo address under your domain settings if your site runs on your own domain. If you are still unsure, the editor address is usually the quickest giveaway: open the editor and look at the URL bar.

Why the name “Dolphin”? Jimdo’s help center for the Website Builder lives at help.jimdo-dolphin.com, and Jimdo’s free-trial article says to “Choose Play for Dolphin or Creator Free if you’d like to use Jimdo Creator.” In Jimdo’s current wording, “Jimdo Website Builder” and “Dolphin” refer to the same product. Paid Creator plans were recently renamed Creator Pro and Creator Business; Jimdo says only the names changed.

Jimdo Creator: yes, use the Widget/HTML Element

Jimdo’s help article “How do I insert my own code?” lists four places where Creator accepts your own HTML, CSS or JavaScript:

  1. Edit HTML inside any element where you can edit text (the </> button).
  2. The Widget/HTML Element, which also takes code for widgets from external providers.
  3. The Edit Head section, under Menu > Settings > Edit Head.
  4. A fully custom design under Design > Advanced > Custom Template.

For an Instagram feed, the Widget/HTML Element is the right one. The Social Feed by grip space embed code is a single script tag, and the feed is drawn exactly where that tag sits on the page. The Widget/HTML Element puts the code in the content area where you drop it, so the feed appears there. Edit Head is the wrong place: anything in the page head is not displayed, so the feed would not show at all. Custom Template is far more work than this needs.

About plans: Jimdo’s help pages on the Widget/HTML Element do not say that it is limited to certain Creator plans. Some integrations that use it have their own requirements (Jimdo says Google AdSense needs a premium plan, for example), but that is a rule for AdSense, not for the element. If you do not see the Widget/HTML Element in your editor, check your plan with Jimdo.

Get your embed code

  1. Sign up for Social Feed by grip space with your email address. The Free plan needs no credit card and includes one widget.
  2. Click “+ Connect Instagram account” and connect an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator). A personal account can be switched to a professional one for free in the Instagram app. Here is how.
  3. Open “Settings & preview”, choose a grid or slider, set the number of posts and columns while watching the preview, and save.
  4. Under “Add the embed code to your website”, click “Copy”. The code looks like this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://n246.grip.space/api/v1/instagram/widget/xxxxxxxx"></script>

The code never changes when you change the widget’s design later. Layout, columns, colors and filters are stored with the widget, so you paste the code into Jimdo once and make every later change in the Social Feed dashboard.

Add the feed to a Jimdo Creator page

These steps follow Jimdo’s help article “How do I add widgets?”:

  1. Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the website.
  2. Click Edit to open your Creator website’s edit mode.
  3. Go to the page where the feed should appear, for example your home page or a page called “Instagram”.
  4. Hover over the content area where you want the feed and click Add Element > More elements and Add-ons.
  5. Choose the Widget/HTML Element.
  6. Paste the embed code into the element, exactly as copied, from <script to </script>.
  7. Click Save. Jimdo says the code loads when you save, and that you should refresh your browser if a widget does not display correctly.
  8. Switch to View Mode (the small monitor icon at the top right) or open your live site in another browser tab to check the feed.

If you want a heading such as “Follow us on Instagram”, add it as a normal Heading element above the Widget/HTML Element so it uses your template’s fonts. Then turn on the account header and Follow button in the widget settings if you also want your profile picture and a one-click Follow link.

Always check the live page. Jimdo’s help pages do not describe exactly how code inside the Widget/HTML Element is shown while you are editing. Judge the result in View Mode or on the published site, not inside the editor. If the feed is missing on the live site too, see the troubleshooting section below.

Showing the feed on every page with the sidebar

Creator templates have a sidebar area. Jimdo explains that the content in the sidebar repeats on every page, and that depending on your template the sidebar sits next to the content or underneath it. That makes the sidebar a natural place for a site-wide feed: add the Widget/HTML Element to the sidebar once, and every page shows it.

  1. Sidebar next to the content: the space is narrow. A slider, or a grid with two or three columns and six to nine posts, fits best. The widget measures the space it is placed in and reduces the number of columns when each image would get smaller than about 100 pixels, so it will not squeeze tiny thumbnails into a narrow column.
  2. Sidebar below the content: it behaves more like a footer band. One row of a grid (for example, as many posts as columns) or a slider adds color without making every page much longer.
  3. Views add up. A sidebar feed loads on every page a visitor opens, and each load counts toward your widget’s monthly views. On the Free plan (3,000 views a month), a busy site can reach that quickly. Put the feed on a single page instead if you are close to the limit.

If something lands in the sidebar by accident, Jimdo’s help says you can move it to the content area.

What about Jimdo Creator’s own Instagram Feed element?

Creator also offers an element called Instagram Feed under Add Element > More Elements and Add-Ons. Jimdo’s help article explains that it is powered by the external provider POWr.io: you register a POWr account, paste a code into the element, and then connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Facebook inside the POWr editor. Jimdo adds that advanced features may cost extra with POWr.

Both routes are legitimate. The differences come down to which service you prefer to work with:

Jimdo Website Builder (Dolphin): the honest answer

Jimdo’s Website Builder help center has an article titled “Adding custom code or external widgets in Jimdo Website Builder”, and it is unusually direct. It says that in the Website Builder you cannot add custom HTML code, scripts or external widgets, and spells out what that means:

  1. You cannot add HTML, CSS or JavaScript.
  2. You cannot embed iframes.
  3. You cannot use external widgets via embed code.

Jimdo explains this as a deliberate choice to keep sites stable, fast and secure. Since the Social Feed by grip space embed code is a script, there is no supported way to place it on a Website Builder site. We do not recommend looking for workarounds: anything that bypasses the editor is outside what Jimdo supports and could break without warning.

What you can do instead on the Website Builder

1. The Smart Apps block. Jimdo’s Website Builder has a Smart Apps block for embedding content from third-party services. You add it with Add block in the content area and choose Smart Apps. Instagram is on the list of supported services, along with YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Facebook and others. The block works by URL: Jimdo’s help says that with it, “your Instagram post” can appear on your website, and that the content you link must be public. In other words, it is designed around a specific piece of content you choose, not an automatically updating grid of your latest posts. Jimdo’s help pages we checked do not say whether a profile URL produces a feed, so if you want to try one, test it in the editor and see what appears.

2. Link to your profile. A clear button or text link such as “See our latest posts on Instagram” in your header, footer or contact section is simple, fast and always up to date, because it sends people to the real thing.

3. Switch to Jimdo Creator. Jimdo’s guide on choosing between the products says that if you need to insert custom HTML, embed third-party widgets or customize with code, Creator is the better choice. Be aware of the cost before you decide: Jimdo says content from one product cannot be moved to the other, so switching means rebuilding the site. For a paid site, Jimdo describes cancelling or revoking the old subscription, setting up the new site, and contacting Jimdo support to move your domain. Changing platforms only for an Instagram feed is rarely worth it, but if you also need other embeds (booking tools, forms, newsletters), it may be.

Design tips for a feed on Jimdo Creator

  1. Home page: two rows of a grid with three or four columns (six to eight posts) gives a good sense of your account without pushing the rest of the page too far down. Turn on the account header and Follow button so visitors can follow you in one click.
  2. A dedicated “Instagram” page: use more posts and a lightbox, so visitors can open each post, read the caption and see videos without leaving your site.
  3. Columns elements: Jimdo’s Columns element shows columns stacked on top of each other on phones. If you place the feed inside a column, it gets the full width on mobile and a narrower space on desktop, which is fine; the widget adapts its column count to the space.
  4. Width: the widget has a maximum width setting (0 to 2,000 pixels). In a wide content area, a maximum of about 1,000 to 1,200 pixels keeps the tiles from becoming huge.
  5. Spacing and font size can be adjusted in the widget settings to sit comfortably next to your template’s other elements.

Plans and limits on our side

On the Free plan, a small “Powered by Social Feed” credit is always shown under the feed; on paid plans it is optional. If your views go over your plan’s monthly limit two months in a row, the feed pauses from the following month until you upgrade or views drop back. The dashboard shows your monthly views for each widget. Full details are on the pricing section.

Troubleshooting on Jimdo Creator

  1. Nothing appears on the live site. First check that the widget is set to Published in the Social Feed dashboard; an unpublished widget shows nothing. Then open the Widget/HTML Element and make sure the whole code is there, from <script to </script>, with no missing characters.
  2. The feed shows after a refresh but not right after saving. Jimdo itself says to refresh your browser if a widget does not display correctly after you click Save.
  3. You pasted the code into Edit Head. Code in the head is not displayed. Remove it from Edit Head and use a Widget/HTML Element in the content area or the sidebar.
  4. You pasted it with Edit HTML in a text element. Text elements are meant for formatted text. Use the dedicated Widget/HTML Element instead, which is what Jimdo recommends for code from external providers.
  5. The feed appears twice. The code is in two places, often once in the sidebar and once on a page. Remove one copy.
  6. The feed appears on every page when you wanted it on one. The element is in the sidebar. Move it into the content area of the page you want.
  7. The page looks broken in your own browser only. Jimdo’s troubleshooting guide suggests clearing your cache, trying a private window, updating the browser and testing another browser. It also lists removing custom or external code as a step when diagnosing display problems.
  8. New Instagram posts are missing. On the Free plan, new posts appear once a day; on paid plans, right away. Also check whether a filter (period, caption keywords, Reels or carousel settings) is hiding them. See why your Instagram feed isn’t updating.
  9. Still stuck? Jimdo’s help says its support team helps with standard Jimdo features but not with your own code, so contact us rather than Jimdo for problems with the feed itself. Our broader checklist is in Instagram feed not showing on your website?

Frequently asked questions

Is Jimdo Dolphin the same as the Jimdo Website Builder?
In Jimdo’s current help pages, yes. The Website Builder’s help center is at help.jimdo-dolphin.com, and Jimdo’s free-plan article calls its free plan “Play for Dolphin”.

Can I add the feed on the Jimdo Website Builder with an iframe?
No. Jimdo’s help says the Website Builder does not allow iframes, custom HTML, scripts or external widgets.

Do I need a paid Jimdo Creator plan?
Jimdo’s help pages on the Widget/HTML Element do not tie it to a specific plan. If you cannot find the element in your editor, check your plan with Jimdo.

Do I need a Facebook Page?
Not for Social Feed by grip space. You connect an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator). Our article on Instagram professional accounts explains the details.

Can I show a hashtag or another account?
No. Social Feed by grip space shows the posts of the Instagram account you connect, and one account per feed. If you need hashtag feeds, look at the tools in our comparison of Instagram feed widgets.

Will the feed slow my Jimdo site down?
The widget is one small script, and the images load directly from Instagram. In a grid, images below the first row load only when visitors scroll near them; a slider loads its images right away, so keep sliders short. More in does an Instagram feed slow down your website?

Can I hide the feed for a while?
Yes. Switch the widget to Unpublished in the dashboard. The code stays in Jimdo but shows nothing until you switch it back.

Does the widget set cookies?
The widget itself does not set cookies or use local storage. Images and videos are loaded from Instagram’s servers, so mention Instagram content in your privacy policy as you would for any embed.
